Who We Are

America was built by immigrants from all over the world. They in turn have enriched the country with their hard work and cultural diversity. Asian Americans are the fastest growing minority group in the United States and South Asians are the fastest growing ethnic group in the Midwest. They comprise over 36% of the Asian population in Illinois (SAAPRI). 

IAC’s mission is to facilitate the adjustment and wellbeing of new immigrants by providing direct services, education, and advocacy. Since 1990, IAC has served as a trusted resource for South Asian and other immigrant communities throughout the Chicago region, helping individuals and families overcome barriers to opportunity and achieve long-term stability.

Each year, IAC serves more than 5,000 individuals and reaches thousands more through community outreach. Our programs contribute directly to a thriving, equitable, and connected Chicago region by addressing disparities in education, economic mobility, health, civic participation, and social connectedness. Through free English language classes, workforce preparedness, parent mentor opportunities,  immigration legal services, public benefits navigation, public health education, the Senior Milan (Together) program, citizenship classes and civic engagement initiatives, we equip immigrants with the tools and knowledge needed to successfully participate in their communities and the broader economy.

IAC provides support  through culturally responsive services delivered in multiple languages, helping clients overcome linguistic, cultural, and systemic barriers. By helping immigrant residents build stable, healthy, and engaged lives, IAC advances a more equitable and connected Chicago region where people of all backgrounds have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
