Community Navigator
The Community Navigator Program empowers trusted community members to serve as a bridge between residents and critical resources. Community Navigators are leaders who share the language, culture, and lived experiences of the communities they support, which allows them to build trust and provide guidance in meaningful ways. A central focus of the program is educating community members on their rights when interacting with law enforcement agencies. Navigators provide clear, accessible information on how to stay safe, protect one’s rights, and access support if needed. This “Know Your Rights” education is essential for immigrant and underserved populations who may face confusion, intimidation, or barriers to justice.
In addition, navigators help individuals and families connect to immigration services throughout Chicago and the state of Illinois. By making these services more accessible, navigators reduce fear and ensure community members are not navigating complex systems alone. The program also invests in the leadership development of navigators themselves. Through training, collaboration, and advocacy, navigators grow their skills to uplift others and strengthen community power. Together, they create safer, more informed, and more resilient communities.
